Original Acoustic Trio
We sing about real things - and what carries us through.
Bobby Haywood is an all-original trio featuring Lynn Bobby (guitar and vocals), Johnny Haywood on drums and vocals and cellist Heather Houseman Roach. Having played together for over 20 years in various band configurations, Lynn and John recently returned to what they do best: a powerful core of strong vocals, rhythm guitar and drums - now completed by Heather on cello. Our music blends generas of rock, folk, country, classical and soul, and probably a few more..
Their influences stretch from deep Motown and soul to NYC rock, grounded in a long San Francisco history of original music. The unique collaboration produces a sound that is dynamic, engaging and layered. Rhythmically, Bobby Haywood sets itself apart - percussive guitar and drums drive the songs without losing the melodies and rock hooks at the heart of their original songs and sound. Although, a handful of carefully selected cover tunes may occassionally appear in the mix.
Lynn Bobby
Singer Songwriter Guitarist
Lynn Bobby brings decades of rich musical experience spanning original rock bands, acoustic duos, solo performances, and variety shows. Growing up outside Detroit, she began her musical journey on California’s Central Coast in Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo before moving to San Francisco, where she dove fully into band life and songwriting.
After several band experiences, Lynn found her groove with the Lynn Bobby Band and recorded her self-titled CD with famed mixing engineer and producer Mark Needham. In 2010, the economic downturn led her to South Florida, where she formed the Earthshine Duo with Darrell Arnold. She has since returned to California and San Francisco, creating an updated sound and happily reconnecting with her musical home.
Lynn brings musicality, harmony, and heart to her audiences through both acoustic and rock interpretations of mostly original music. Rooted in California coastal songwriting, her sound explores both height and depth—reverberating to the core with what music does best: connection.
Johnny Haywood
Drums and Vocals
Johnny Haywood has spent decades performing as a drummer on both the East and West Coasts, playing in bands including Brad Factor, Bad Oscar, WJT Trio, the Lynn Bobby Band, and many others. In recent years, he has expanded into singing, surprising many with his powerful, soulful vocals showcased in Johnny Haywood and the Mad Cats & Americans.
A lifelong student and educator, his depth of experience is evident in both his playing and his mentorship. Growing up in New York with a performing drummer as a father, it’s no surprise that rhythm and music are at the core of who he is.
Heather Houseman roach
Cellist
Heather Houseman Roach brings the deep, soulful voice of the cello to Bobby Haywood. Her playing doesn't just accompany — it responds. It finds the spaces between the words, fills them with warmth and ache, and lifts the melody without overwhelming it.
A classically trained cellist, Heather began piano at age four and picked up the cello at ten. She studied cello performance at San Diego State University, and over the last two decades, she has branched into nearly every genre imaginable — from soul to rap to gypsy jazz, and everything in between. She has recorded with over fifty bands and ensembles, each time finding the hidden heart of a song.
When she's not playing, Heather teaches cello to young students, hoping to pass along not just technique, but a love for the instrument. She has taught for over twenty years: eleven years of private lessons and nine years in the public schools.
Heather plays cello warmly, beautifully, exactly when the song needs it.
